What Is CCTV?
The acronym CCTV stands for Closed circuit television. The
term can be defined as a duty of monitoring, detection, identification and recognition
of any object transmitted by a CCTV Camera that is displayed by any form of a
monitoring device in an enclosed area. The term closed circuit refers to the
fact that the images recorded by the cameras are not broadcast, but saved on a
storage device. CCTV system was
originally developed as a security measure in banks, and later expanded to
other businesses and home .
How to Identify a
CCTV Network.
A CCTV network uses coaxial cable or microwaves to broadcast
its signal to the connected receiver. The network can be accessed by a display
units directly connected to the network. This is deferent from a standalone
television network which anyone can tune to an open network's frequency to
access the images being broadcast. Access is restricted with CCTV.
Features
CCTV camera uses a chip with a charged coupled device (CCD)
for capturing digital images. This device creates images using small charges of
electricity that are emitted when light hits a pixel. Each CCD chip generates
hundreds of thousands of pixels that make up the image.
Functions
A CCTV system can be used and has been used, tested and has
proved 100% in all its dealings, it performs three main aspects of
surveillance: deterrent, documentation and monitoring. It can be used in
facilities and homes all over the world. The presence of a camera system helps
deter unlawful activity in homes and businesses, and in cases where deterrent
was unsuccessful, the cameras provide a documentation of the crime to aid in
capturing the criminals. Monitoring allows live viewing of an area, a helpful
intervention aid for elderly patients. A company may install a CCTV network as
a form of security to monitor the company grounds, and a private residence can
employ a CCTV network in the same way. CCTV networks can be used in hospitals
to allow nurses to keep an eye on multiple patients at the same time, and they
can also be used to monitor traffic at busy intersections.
Recording Device
Each CCTV network has a time-lapse recording device that
captures the images and stores them for use at a later time. Now there are many
CCTV networks that implements digital archiving where video footage/images are
stored on series of computer hard drives and other storage mediums which can be
kept for months. Previously many CCTV networks used VHS tape CCTV time-lapse
technology as their method of recording and could store 24 hours of
surveillance on a tape.
What Is the Meaning
of CCTV Camera?
It is video surveillance system that provides a never
closing eye to watch over property and possessions, allowing a sense of safety
and security. Cameras attached to a closed circuit television system send data
to a computer or video recorder for live viewing or later playback.
Types of Cameras
Different camera styles fit different needs of surveillance.
A dome camera typically oversees businesses such as retail and convenience
stores, and consists of the camera placed in a dark dome. This hides the
specific angle of the camera, preventing a potential thief from stealing while
the camera's "not looking." A wall camera, however, provides a very
visible reminder of surveillance and vary in options to include infrared, zoom
or even bulletproof. Hidden cameras bring to mind the tiny, hidden cameras of
spy movies, and are used in covert surveillance.
Types of Camera Lens
The type of camera lens you'll require depends upon your
specific needs for surveillance. CCTV camera lenses come in three basic types,
which are based on focal length -- normal, wide angle and telephoto. The least
expensive type of lens is fixed focal length, meaning the camera lens does not
zoom or change focus area. Adjustable focal length and even zoom CCTV cameras
are also available, but are higher priced.
